"Welcome to the training course that will enable you to realise
your first LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) study'.

The course for "PRODUCTS SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER & LCA EXPERT " is an invitation-only, limited number course designed to qualify the professional figures of sustainability experts through highly specialised training.

It is aimed at corporate functions involved in the assessment of the environmental performance of products, in eco-design activities, and at managerial figures responsible for defining the strategy for the development of new products and for the approach to "green marketing". The intensive course will focus on an in-depth study of standards and product certification/assessment according to the different international environmental assessment models and will provide advanced knowledge of the two most widely used software for LCA studies: SimaPro and OpenLCA.

Participants will obtain the qualification of PRODUCTS SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER & LCA EXPERT by presenting in public the project work, developed during the course with the support of lecturers and tutors.

* The course in "SPECIAL EDITION FOOD & PACKAGING" provides for the learning of basic theory as in previous editions, but in this edition lecturers, specialised in FOOD and PACKAGING LCA, will assist the trainees in the development of end-of-course projects and in the use of software.

Milan with online days.

COURSE DURATION

15 collegial meetings and 8 one-to-one coaching appointments:

  • 12 days of classroom or online training starting in April 2024 >> Download the calendar
  • 2 seminar meetings, also open to colleagues of trainees
  • 1 conference to present end-of-course projects (date to be determined) >> see the 2023 conference
  • 16 hours of on-line teacher assistance in the development of the end-of-course project (2-hour appointments on the MappingLCA web platform)

PARTICIPANTS

20 places available.
Participants are admitted to the course following successful completion of selection interviews, which include discussion of the project to be developed during the course.
Participants are advised to use a personal computer and are required to have a good knowledge of the English language.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The teaching methodology includes face-to-face and on-line lectures, plus tutoring and on-line supervision for project development. Participants are asked to take a self-training approach using the bibliography delivered with the teaching materials.

CERTIFICATES

At the end of the course, the following will be issued:
- a Certificate of Qualification related to the results of the end-of-course project
- a Certificate of Attendance for Phase 2, related to software learning

ENTRY FEE

The registration fee is € 4,900.00 + VAT 22% including teaching materials.

COURSE LECTURERS

Anna Bortoluzzi

ICMCI-qualified Management Consultant, works mainly in the field of innovation projects. A chemistry graduate, materials technologist, she has gained significant work experience in industrial plant management and in the field of statistical analysis. Since 2006, she has worked as a life cycle analysis (LCA) expert in international projects and in the development of PCR (Product Category Rules). For 20 years, she was an adjunct professor on environmental sustainability issues at the University of Milan. She is founder and partner of the MAPPING LCA platform.

Andrea Casson

PhD student in Food Systems at the University of Milan in collaboration with Quota Sette Srl. Sustainability consultant with title of LCA Expert obtained in 2022. Extensive experience in life cycle assessment in agro-food and food packaging supply chains. With creativity, vision and scientific approach he offers innovative solutions by developing eco-design proposals in food systems.

Alessandro Bordignon

LCA Expert and project manager. He accompanies companies through training and technical-managerial consulting on environmental sustainability issues. He has developed certified LCA studies in various industries, particularly in the composite materials and packaging sector. He is PCR Moderator for composite materials and yachts. Food Contact Expert registered with AIBO-FCE. LCA course lecturer for companies with counselling and strategic coaching skills.

Paul Simon Ostan

An environmental engineer, expert in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), environmental communication and eco-design, he offers support to organisations in the field of environmental sustainability issues. He also performs verification activities as Lead Auditor in the EPD and Carbon Footprint schemes on behalf of the SGS Italia Certification Body. He is PCR Moderator and Individual Verifier within the International EPD® System programme.

Andrea Mio

Researcher in Principles of Chemical Engineering at the University of Trieste. After graduating in Process and Materials Engineering, he obtained his PhD in Nanotechnology at the University of Trieste. His latest research interests focus on the integration of innovative methodologies, such as molecular and process simulations, within Life Cycle Assessment studies focused on typical processes in the chemical, pharmaceutical, energy and shipbuilding industries.

Fulvio Restori

A professional who in the energy field holds the role ofEnergy manager (according to L.10/91) and Expert in Energy Management (Uni 11339 certified Aicq Sicev 001), as well as Auditor for ISO 50001 systems (certified Aicq Sicev 001). He accompanies companies in a transition process towards energy efficiency and decarbonisation, carrying out Energy Diagnosis, analysing production processes, evaluating possible interventions, and promoting management change. Training activities and the application of organisational models are the first approach to 'cement' the new course.

Maria Teresa Betti

Sustainability Specialist at RadiciGroup. Maria Teresa has been a member of the RadiciGroup sustainability team since 2010. Her main activities include supervising the reporting process for the Sustainability Report and collaborating in defining and managing the Group's sustainability objectives. She is a member of national and international organisations dealing with the circular economy and participates in projects in the areas of responsible fashion, sustainable use of plastics and transparent environmental communication.

Susanna Caprotti

An economics graduate, she has worked in business for 30 years. Sustainability as a business tool: this conviction has guided the development of her skills in sustainability reporting and the implementation of Life Cycle Assessment studies over the last fifteen years.

Meeting point for sustainability experts. The team consists of technicians with multidisciplinary skills: engineers, industrial technologists, chemists, physicists, materials experts, researchers, economists, managers and consulting professionals. Their aim is to contribute to the improvement of life cycle analysis and all the tools that help to make concrete and transparent choices in the field of sustainability. Mapping LCA is the operational group created to share projects and make visible a 20-year-long commitment.

Quota Sette Srl is a service company operating in the field of Management Consulting and registered in the European register of innovative SMEs, founder of MAPPING LCA and MAPPING Sustainability. At the side of companies, it has always been dedicated to strategic innovation consulting. In the specific field of environmental sustainability, for more than fifteen years, she has been offering services in the development of LCA studies, comparative LCA studies and eco-design solutions supported by the LCA approach. Within innovation projects, it supports corporate functions engaged in the study of environmental footprints of products with consultancy in the field of strategic communication and green marketing.

Agrifood LCA Lab is a laboratory of the DiSAA (Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences) of the University of Milan. It is composed of PhD students, researchers and professors who work on assessing sustainability in the agrifood supply chain, using scientific tools and methods. The laboratory's mission is to objectively assess production systems to ensure a sustainable future for agriculture and food.

The MolBNL Group at the University of Trieste focuses on applying innovative methodologies in the field of life cycle analysis, using molecular modelling and process simulation techniques to obtain inventory data for advanced materials and processes. The multiscale modelling approach has led to several scientific publications including the energy sector, the naval sector, the development of innovative industrial products, and hydrogen production.
